About Our Chapter
While the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) was founded in 1890, it wasn’t until December 11, 1900, that Monument Chapter, NSDAR, was chartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Monument Chapter, NSDAR, is one of the oldest and largest DAR chapters in Minnesota. On February 2, 2013, the chapter charter location was moved from Minneapolis to Edina to more accurately reflect where most members lived in the south to southwest metro. One of the primary goals of the Monument Chapter, NSDAR, was to erect patriotic monuments in public spaces. Today, Monument Chapter, NSDAR, members contribute through historic preservation, education, and patriotism to honor our ancestors.

Historic Preservation
Our chapter supports national and state historic preservation projects as well as supports our community in the preservation of historical artifacts.
Patriotism
Our chapter supports national and state patriotism projects as well as supports our local veterans and hosts celebratory events such as the 4th of July and Veterans Day.
Education
Our chapter supports national and state education projects as well as works with our community through our projects to support education via scholarships and educational events.
We Make a Difference in Our Communities
Historic Preservation
Monument Chapter, NSDAR, chose to take part in the 2022 State Regent’s Veteran Headstone Cleaning project by volunteering at the Oak Hill Cemetery. The members used a collection of tools for the cleaning process and preserved many gravestones. Since 2022, the efforts have resulted in 228 headstones unearthed/cleaned and 42 upright headstones cleaned. This project provided such satisfaction that our chapter continued this effort beyond the project’s expiration date.
Patriotism
Our chapter participates in various patriotic projects through the year such as Project Patriot where we collect and donate supplies for active men and women in the military, monthly Fisher House volunteering, placing flags at Fort Snelling, participating in the Edina 4th of July parade, volunteering at the Minneapolis Veterans Administration (VA) food pantry, and participation in Constitution Week activities at Edina City Hall and within the chapter.
Education
Our chapter is passionate about educating the youth of America and contributing to school programs such as supporting DAR schools, donating funds to American Indian schools, providing scholarships and awards to outstanding students in Minnesota, promoting education and citizenship through youth programs such as Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) and DAR Good Citizens, and sponsoring American History Essay contests for grades five through eight. We also promote education and awareness for topics such as American Heritage, Literacy, Native American Culture, DAR Schools, and others.

Today’s Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a vibrant service organization for women over the age of 18 who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolutionary War. In October 2019, DAR surpassed one million women who have joined the DAR since its founding in 1890. Minnesota Daughters come from all over our great state and beyond. They are young women who join to honor a family member, older women who enjoy genealogical research in their retirement years, professional women interested in connecting with other women in the community where they live, and others. Founded in 1890 by four forward-thinking patriotic women in Washington, D.C., today’s DAR has welcomed over one million women as members throughout our history. We are a service organization supporting historical, educational and patriotic initiatives in communities in America and beyond.
